1. Can ECO Adventures find me a teammate?
What we can do is put your name and contact details
on our website and hopefully someone will contact
you.
2. Does ECO Adventures provide any training sessions or classes
in Adventure Racing?
Yes, contact us and we can set up dates to meet your
particular objectives
3. Where can we obtain specialty Adventure Race products?
Tell us what you need and we may be able to obtain
a good deal from a Floridian based company.
4. What is the weather and temperature likely to be?
Be prepared for brilliant sunshine, extremely
hot conditions (35°C) or pouring rain
In our last race of the series, in the wee
hours of the morning the temperature may get chilly
especially if you’re wet too.
Bring appropriate gear for any conditions.
5. If a teammate gets hurt on the course, how do I inform
the officials?
Use your cell phone (if service is available)
to contact and ECO Adventures official.
You may pass on information to us via other teams and
we will send help for you.
6. Would medics and an ambulance be on site?
Yes, safety is very important to us, and at every
event we have highly qualified medics and an ambulance
on site
7. If I need equipment and get assistance from another team
will I be disqualified?
No, we encourage teams to help each other out,
so that everyone has an opportunity to complete
the race.
8. If I stop to help another team would that time be credited
to me?
Yes, the exact time has to be mutually agreed by both
teams involved
9. Do I need to carry my Mountain Bike gear all the time?
No, only during the biking section
10. Do I need to carry my running shoes at all times?
Yes, as the race may require you to
do some hiking while still on the Mountain Bike section
11. Do I need to carry my backpack, water and mandatory equipment
on all sections?
Yes, even during the paddling and
orienteering sections.
Random checks may be done and
time penalties applied.
12. Do I need to stick with my teammate all the time?
Yes, you are not allowed to be more
than a few meters away from your teammate at any time.
Any excursions will result in disqualification.
13. If I cannot continue the race what do I do?
You need to inform the closest CP
and fill out an appropriate form, so that ECO Adventures
knows how many people are still racing
14. Suppose I start off the series as a co-ed team, could
I switch to an all male team in the next
race?
No, once you pick a category to race
in (ie male, female, coed) you must stick to that throughout
the series.
15. Do I need to know how to read a map and use a compass?
Yes, but at a very basic level. The
navigation is not very difficult and if you need any help prior
to the race you can contact ECO Adventures and we will be happy to help
you.
16. Is the Mountain Bike section very technical?
There is a mix of technical trails
as well as long stretches of non-technical off–road riding.
If you are not a confident mountain biker these sections allow you to
dismount your bike and walk
17. Can a beginner take part in the series?
The series begins with the “north
cross” which is designed with the beginner in mind.
All the disciplines are covered but the
duration of each is not anticipated to be exorbitant.
Anyone with a basic skill in the three main disciplines; hiking, mountain
biking and paddling will do well in
this race.
The second and third races get progressively
more difficult in terms of the duration and the
technical aspect of navigation, mountain biking and nutritional planning
and pacing. Everyone will have more
than enough time to progress to the next level.
18. What if I never paddled before?
Not to worry, kayaks can be rented
at the kayak Center in Chaguaramas. The Kayak Centre
is open every day from 6am to 6pm. If you still cannot get down there
before the race, the kayaks are very
stable and are virtually unsinkable (the sit on top type). You have
a choice of singles or doubles. Lifejackets and paddles are supplied as
well as water safety.
19. Can I use my own kayak?
Yes, but the entrance fee does not
change
20. Do I need a support team?
Only the last race would require a
support team. The other two races ECO Adventures will
take care of the logistics.
21. Can I have different teammates for different races?
When you sign up for the first race,
this would be the core team. You are allowed only one alternate,
but one member of the core team must be present at each race.
Core team must complete at least 2
races in order to qualify for series prizes.
22. Does my team, have to enter every race to qualify for
series prizes?
NO. Points will be awarded after each
race, and double points for the last race in the series.
Once your final point counts puts your team in the prize bracket you will
not be required to do every race but
you are encouraged to.
23. Can I enter on the day?
No. The cut off date to register is
two days prior to the race date as we have to prepare
packages , maps etc. There will a late registration fee of $50.00. However,
you will not be allowed to enter on the race day.
24. Is there a maximum of teams permitted to race?
Yes. Due to limited number of kayaks
available the race is restricted to 50 teams.
25. Will food and beverages, including alcohol, be available
for purchase?
Yes. Light snacks like hotdogs, hamburgers
and drinks like soft drinks water and beer will
be available for purchase at the finish line.
26. Can alcohol be consumed by team members or support
crew during the race?
Team members and support
crew cannot consume alcohol until the team has completed the
race, withdrawn or has been disqualified.
27. Can my friends and family follow me on the course?
No. Friends and family will be able
to see you at designated checkpoints along the route. This
information may be obtained from ECO Adventures personnel at the race
start.
28. Is there a minimum age for participation?
Persons under the age of 18 will require
parental consent ( in writing).
